GAZ 0175Last time I mentioned we fitted the full Akrapovic titanium race system and I was about to take the bike to Noddy’s Dynojet dyno to see what the increase in power is, if any? Well, I now have figures. To be honest it’s not as much as I thought it would be showing how efficient the standard system is, but the motor, now with 2,900km on the clock, most certainly picks up quicker. We now have a five horsepower gain over the stock bike, which made 157hp on the wheel, so it now makes 162hp at the wheel, still hugely impressive figures for a V-twin! Actually that’s the same horsepower as the new Fireblade SP but the mighty Super Duke makes 30% more torque than the ‘Blade, or any superbike for that matter, which is where its now 130Nm dominates everything else.

But it does rev much harder at the top end and shakes its head when there, maybe a better adjustable steering damper is now necessary? But doesn’t the titanium colouring look the business and I love people pointing at the pipe for that reason alone.GAZ 0177

Even more bits from the KTM Power Parts book (www.ktm.com) have been installed and I now have the most fancy Super Duke in Country, maybe? First off we bolted on those trick MotoGP style brake and clutch protectors. They’re to stop the brake lever being snagged and throwing one over the ’bars during a race. But I’ve found another use, shopping! Oh yes, I can now hang shopping and bags of fish and chips off the ‘bars on my way home. I’ll probably get letters now saying that’s dangerous. My reply is – only if you’re pulling massive wheelies, so there. They also resemble insect antennae and go perfectly with the ‘waspish’ like face/headlight. GAZ 0178

Two more bits of hardwear are these cool looking Galfer wave race discs, expertly fitted by my friends at www.radmoto.co.za again, top guys those. Primarily for race use because they constantly ‘shave’ the pads to keep a new brake pad surface for optimum braking at all times and the material is better. I can most certainly feel a more progressive feel and they bite harder. So if you want even better brakes then buy these and they look tremendous. But pad life obviously decreases; nothing comes for free, eh?

So we’re about done with parts now, unless I discover more enticing bits. It’s time to get out, ride, show off, pull wheelies, wheel-spin, make noise and become a bit of a hooligan, which sums up my Super Duke R in a nutshell (titanium one of course).
