After attending the World Launch of this rather special bike in Doha last year there was only one motorbike I wanted/needed in my garage and, this is it!
Why! Well, it’s without doubt the most mental thing on two wheels that money can buy and I’ll fight you to the death if you disagree, maybe? I’m also the biggest fan of naked bikes instead of those huge Adventure bike ‘thingees’ that everyone seems to adhere to in SA.
So after irritating the s**t out of Riaan Neveling from KTMSA, and all of the staff, the 2017 Super Duke is mine for the next few months. I’m going to lather it with lots of exciting bits from the official KTM Powerparts book over this period, so keep watching this space.
Meanwhile, it’s had the first 1000km service expertly done by www.radmoto.co.za because they’re my closest dealer and good friends. It costs around 3k for the first service using only factory parts, finished off with an extensive check list, so its now fresh and ready for wild days and nights.
However, the most irritating thing about the Super Duke is constantly resetting the modes once the ignition is turned off, then it will not wheelie without going back into the menu, grrrrr! So, during the service RAD installed this ‘dongle’ thing that keeps the settings you’ve chosen costing R1,420. The first addition any new 2017 Super Duke rider should buy. All of these parts are available from any KTM dealer throughout SA. Go to www.ktm.com to locate yours and immediately grab a test ride if you’re considering a Super Duke, which you certainly should if you enjoy breathtaking performance.
One more thing I’m fed up with is people/public asking what size the engine is on my black option. The 1290 sticker is tiny. So a quick visit to www.imagebuild.co.za and they’ve made these very cool NASCAR styled 1300 numbers (it is 1301cc after all). Now, everyone is taking pictures accompanied with a mouth full of expletives due to it proudly displaying the outrageous engine capacity, and I love it!
So what’s the plan now you ask? Well you’ll just have to be patient won’t you?
