Ricky Russell Wood

Popular Pinetown motorcycle and Jet Ski dealership Hooked Up Motorsport has joined the Kawasaki family in South Africa, selling Kawasaki and Sym motorcycles, scooters and jet skis as well as the extensive range of other products imported and distributed by KMSA.  “Who better to sell and maintain our motorcycles and personal watercraft than 12 times South African motorcycle road-racing champion Russell Wood and double jet ski world champion Ricky Sneddon?” asks KMSA’s managing director Chris Speight. “They both know their stuff when it comes to bikes and jet skis and they’re very competent businessmen, so we’re very happy indeed to have them on our side.”

Russell, who won his dozen South African 250 GP and Superbike road racing titles between 1984 and 2003, founded the Muscle and Fitness gym group while he was still racing and is today well known as a very successful businessman and property owner. Ricky, who manages the day-to-day affairs at Hooked Up Motorsports enjoyed a successful motocross career that earned him multiple Natal and Transvaal championships before switching to the jet skis that brought him 18 South African and two world championships. He later worked as national sales manager for Fox Motocross Gear for eight years before opening Hooked Up with Russell two years ago.

“We’ve been trading for two years now, and with Kawasaki and Sym on board our product range is nicely rounded off” says Ricky.  “If the racetrack that Russell’s negotiating at the old Durban airport works out he will do customer track days and give rider training and I’ll be buying myself a ZX-10!”

Russell’s first international superbike race was on a Kawasaki and it was his passion for motorcycle racing that brought the dealership about. ”I sponsor Blaze Baker on his Kawasaki ZX-6R, and he wrote off the bike I’d bought him at the nationals in East London. We needed another bike so I phoned Kawasaki’s MD, Chris Speight, to see if he could help us out and he did. He and I then ended up talking about a dealership and here we are. It’s great for us because there’s a big Kawasaki following in the highway area that we haven’t until now had access to. Our shop started two years ago with 200 m2 of floor-space and virtually no yard space, and it now covers almost 1000 m2   so we have room to grow.  The Kawasaki association will allow us to do a whole lot better, and our workshop, spares and accessories will all get a very useful boost.”

AGO 2

MV Agusta’s limited addition Agostini F 800 arrived this week at Cayenne, no time was wasted to get this magnificent motor cycle onto the showroom floor.

AGO 4“Only 300 of the Ago F 800 were produced we were extremely lucky to get a handful of them from the factory” said Craig Langton DP for MV Agusta SA a division of the Cayenne Group. “All the units come with a special certificate signed by Giacomo Agostini himself, providing additional proof of the uniqueness and originality of this latest MV Agusta legend, each unit is also numbered and signed by the famous Giacomo Agostini and are in the Agusta race colours, to own one of these is very special”.

These motorcycles made Giacomo Agostini a motorcycling legend and have now re-emerged from the past thanks to the most spectacular MV Agusta ever, the F3 800 AGO, packed with unsurpassed technology, the MV Agusta performance and handling, along with the additional Ago limited model features and styling

Electronic engine and traction control play a pivotal role, ensuring the F3 800 AGO delivers tip-top performance at all times. Practical handlebar controls let the rider choose from among three different pre-set power delivery modes. And those hungry for more personalised performance will be delighted to hear that the F3 800 AGO allows configuration of the control parameters, including the traction control settings.

Thanks to the MVICS (Motor &Vehicle Integrated Control System), the rider has absolute control over the set-up process and can thus truly benefit from the exceptional versatility that brings out the technical qualities of the bike whatever the riding conditions, on the road and racetrack alike. Like a real racing bike, the F3 800 AGO even lets the rider choose - together with a host of other parameters the ratio between throttle twist and throttle body opening.

The sophisticated ABS Bosch 9MP with Race Mode and the RLM system, which prevents the rear wheel from lifting off the asphalt under hard braking. Awesome deceleration is ensured by a top-notch Brembo braking system.

The use of carbon fibre on the front and rear fenders gives the F3 800 Ago real racing panache, making the bike even lighter and enhancing the already excellent power-to-weight ratio. Another key contribution comes from the gorgeous forged rims, which save a full 2 kilograms compared to the standard version. A sports-style plate holder emphasises the flowing lines of the tail, underlining its thoroughbred racing pedigree.

The F3 800 AGO is unique in every detail. A silver plaque attached to the steering yoke shows a progressive number certifying that the F3 800 AGO is one of MV Agusta's most exclusive creations; each one carries the personal autograph of 15-times world champion Giacomo Agostini on the fuel tank.

BRUTALE 800 DRAGSTER

Throttle wide open, engine at the rev limit, the rear wheel spinning relentlessly trying to gain traction, surrounded by a cloud of white smoke, deafening tyre squeal, raw power, biting into the tarmac and devouring it metre after metre. The MV Agusta Brutale 800 Dragster is all this and much, much more. It is motorcycling reduced to the essence of pure riding pleasure.

“This is the MV Agusta’s introduction to the Brutale 800 Dragster and it’s all fact with this new machine, all the MV Agusta’s are stunning looking motorcycles, but the Brutale Dragster has to be one of the most attractive looking MVA’s from the Factory yet” said Craig Langton DP for MV Agusta SA and the Cayenne Group. “We had a number of the units snapped up on their arrival, some riders waited for months for them to land we can certainly see why they are in demand”.

MV Agusta continues to expand its motorcycle range, after introducing the Rivale 800, the emblem of motard-style sports appeal and ultra-dynamic road performance, the new Brutale 800 Dragster takes the very concept of 'motorcycling passion' and makes it breathtakingly tangible. No mere means of transport, a motorcycle is a symbol of freedom, of our need to get out there and explore and to savour kilo after spine-tingling kilo. Experiencing every single second of that freedom, the new Brutale 800 Dragster embodies and embraces the ambitions and dreams of every biker, making them nothing less than on-the-road reality.

The 3-cylinder Brutale have introduced countless riders to that awesome buzz that goes with riding a high-performance naked bike. The outstanding ridability of this machine, its brute power that is under constant control, weight and great design, is an unmatched combination and has made the 3-cylinder Brutale a huge success.

Now, the Brutale 800 Dragster takes a big step forward into the future, yet does so with an attentive eye to the past. The most extreme Brutale ever is no fan of compromise. Packing a powerful punch, the Brutale 800 Dragster takes exhilaration to a whole new level. At the same time it draws on the ideas that shaped the first 4-cylinder Brutale units, the very essence of the naked concept and monuments to incomparable styling.

Linking yesterday and tomorrow, the Brutale 800 Dragster embodies both experience and intuition, symbolizing motorcycling past, present and forever. Pure essence, pure thrills and a 100% Brutale, with consummate Italian craftsmanship, the Brutale re-evokes the epic DNA of the “dragster” race bikes, specifically built to release their explosive power in the few seconds.
