Yamaha proudly had a launch last week, displaying three of their new models, which are now available on dealer floors by the time you’ve finished reading this piece.
By far the most important model is their all-new MT-07. If you don’t already know it’s a 700 parallel twin that offers a similar style of riding to their superb MT-09. So of course the first thing I leaped on was this…
However, the theory and practice of riding this bike in it’s natural environment (urban cycle) went out of the window immediately because the ‘launch’ turned into a mad top speed run for 15km, nothing wrong with that though because that’s my natural environment as well.
So all I can tell you about the MT-07 is that it wheelies, it’s stable at high speeds and does 216kmh on the clock, not too bad at all for a ‘supposedly’ mid-capacity commuter.
At the next junction I swapped and hopped aboard the updated T-Max scooter. It’s exactly the same bike/scooter as last year but now with ABS and a substantial price drop to attract new customers into the executive scooter market. Again it became a top speed run and I saw 180kmh on this one’s clock.
Another new important model is the 2014 Super Tenere 1200EZ. More power and torque, revised riding position, new clocks and screen, cruise control and some very fancy and all the rage, electronic suspension. Never got to ride this one but I will within the next few weeks, because the bar looked more inviting that a dusty road and I didn’t want to get my new jeans dirty, which is nothing but a pathetic excuse really, still, it looks fantastic.
Anyway, all three are now in Yamaha dealers nationwide and they will cost R95,000 for the MT-07, which includes ABS, R96,000 for the latest ABS T-Max and R179,995 for the new Super Tenere for the adventure minded dudes.
I will be doing a ‘proper’ test on all three in the very near future so keep logging on to our test section for that and I’ll try my best to keep the top speed runs to a minimum.
